These products are capable of posing a significant risk to health, safety, property or the environment when transported by air if not handled, labelled, packaged or documented properly.

Many articles and substances being shipped may be considered as Dangerous Goods and aren’t always obvious:

  • Tools or machinery powered by fuel or batteries

To ensure the safety of the aircraft, there are certain items that are not allowed on board and some items that are allowed only under certain conditions. The following items must not be shipped as or in baggage as they are considered dangerous goods. For a more detailed and updated list of dangerous goods, please refer to the Transport Canada and CATSA websites.

Shippers Responsibilities 

The shipper is responsible to determine if there are Dangerous Goods in their cargo and to correctly identifying, classifying, package, mark, label and prepare the shipper’s declaration for all Dangerous Goods as well as complying with all of the applicable national and international Dangerous Goods Regulations.

Not declaring Dangerous Goods is a serious offence under the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act and Calm Air Cargo is required by law to report such instances to Transport Canada.

Calm Air Cargo reserves the right to refuse any shipment that could potentially contain undeclared or misdeclared Dangerous Goods.
