Position Summary:

The VP of Business Development partners with Executives across the organization to help identify, analyze, and prioritize new business/growth opportunities. In addition, this position will identify opportunities for strategic alliances, joint ventures and be assigned to special corporate projects. This position will assist with new and existing customer contracts and third-party service provider contracts as well as play an integral role in contract negotiations.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  •  Play a lead role in business development and relationship building opportunities
  • Manage relationships with partners/vendors
  • Improve financial operating performance through increased reliability enabling enhanced contractual incentives
  • Input and assist, if applicable, in business case development to enable the airline to meet growth and market share targets
  • Demonstrate strength in obtaining results through a clear focus on goals and accountability, communications, and knowledge of the business
  • Measure effectiveness of all internal and external processes, producing timely, accurate and complete reports on the operating condition of the company
  • Design and implement business strategies, plans and procedures
  • Set comprehensive goals for performance and growth
  • Evaluate performance by analyzing and interpreting data and metrics
  • Participate in expansion activities (investments, acquisitions, corporate alliances etc.)
  • Liaison with Charter Sales to ensure activities are aligned and revenue growth is maximized
  • Work in conjunction with the executive team to develop strategies for maximizing passenger revenue and cargo volume growth
  • Responsible for the oversight, development and implementation of the marketing plan, taking into consideration budget estimates, objectives, and measurable initiatives
  • Establishes and maintains professional relationships with industry influencers and key strategic partners
  • Identify opportunities for continuous process improvements throughout the organization and work closely with various division heads for implementation
  • Maintain a close liaison with each department for all operational requirements
  • Other duties as assigned

Financial:

  •  Prepare annual departmental budgets in conjunction with the Executive team
  • In conjunction with the Executive team, develop annual strategic plans, operating plans, forecasts, budgets, and capital expenditures
  • Monitor and analyze monthly expenditures to assigned GL accounts and explain variances from budget
  • Monthly Management reporting - weekly operating reports
  • Monitor overtime bi-weekly and report on reasons for overtime
  • Adhere to all financial internal controls
  • Monitor department manpower to ensure within budget and seek approval for replacement/increase
  • Engage in ongoing cost reduction analysis

Safety: 

  • Actively support the safety management system by following SMS processes and encouraging a safety reporting culture in your department
  • Promote occupational health and safety within your department, and participate in the development and monitoring of safety training
  • Proactively communicate hazards and SMS initiatives with your department
  • Embark on employment equity initiatives; engaging with all employees to promote employment equity and encouraging employees to undertake the self-declaration survey updating as necessary
  • All levels of the organization share responsibility for human rights within the organization; overseeing and promoting continuous improvement on human rights and employment equity initiatives

Senior Management (Department Head) – have been delegated the authority and are responsible to the Accountable Executive for developing and maintaining the SMS (Safety Management System) Program within their departments, this includes receiving reports and communicating freely to and with all personnel within their respective department and other departments as required to maintain effective day to day activities.  Ensure regulatory and company standard processes and procedures are developed and maintained (Quality Assurance activities).  Ensure all hazards and deficiencies are managed to remove or reduce risk to as low as reasonably possible.  Providing resources as necessary or inform the Accountable Executive when they are required (eg. human, financial, training, tools, proper protective equipment).

Leadership:

  •  Change management leader – execute change while supporting employees through communication, listening and actioning
  • Lead and inspire employees, provide mentorship and oversee the professional development of the various teams supported
  • Create and maintain a positive company culture that supports employee participation
  • Embark on employment equity initiatives; engaging with all employees to promote employment equity and encouraging employees to undertake the self-declaration survey updating as necessary
  • All levels of the organization share responsibility for human rights within the organization; overseeing and promoting continuous improvement on human rights and employment equity initiatives

Qualifications & Skills:

  •  Post -secondary education in a related field
  • A minimum of 5 years’ previous experience at the senior management or executive level with proven qualifications and experience with business development
  • Previous airline/aviation experience preferred
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment with a thorough understanding of different cultures, traditions, practices and beliefs as it affects doing successful business in the North
  • Strong business acumen and expertise in strategy development
  • Strong presentation skills with the ability to sell ideas across various audiences
  • Proficient with MS Office
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Previous experience in a unionized environment as asset
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain airport security clearance
  • Northern experience considered an asset
  • Some travel required
