Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Maintenance, the Avionics Manager is responsible for the operation and control of the Avionics shop and all its programs and procedures. They will be hands-on providing supervision and ensuring accuracy of maintenance activities being carried out with an emphasis on safety and efficiency.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

Operations:

  • Responsible for control of the Avionics Shop and procedures
  • Instructing subordinates in company policies, working methods, safe working practices, maintenance procedures and follow-up to ensure compliance with orders regulations and conformity to standards
  • Maintaining a close liaison with the Director of Maintenance, regarding scheduled maintenance for Avionics
  • Submitting reports to the Vice President Maintenance regarding the degree of efficiency and working conditions within the Avionics Shop
  • Studying material and component requirements and arranging for adequate inventories of stocks, spares, equipment, tools, etc., to meet varying demands of the Avionics Shop
  • Assisting with and supporting all policies and procedures in regard to the Calm Air SMS Program, as outlined in the Safety Management Manual, CAV-1001
  • Follow all procedures necessary for maintenance or repairs to the aircraft and equipment
  • Ensure all work carried out is properly documented in accordance with the Procedures manual
  • Provide the appropriate ACA release as required
  • Provide oversite and assist with repair/calibration of Avionics components
  • Must always comply with all safety regulations
  • Maintain all Calm Air assigned training required within job role
  • Ensure that all items of work are listed, recorded, and signed out on the appropriate work card
  • Perform work procedures, while ensuring that approved methods and materials are used in a safe, efficient, and economical manner
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment
  • Other duties as assigned

Financial:

  • Monitor overtime bi-weekly and report on reasons for overtime
  • Adhere to all financial internal controls
  • Assist with monitoring department manpower to ensure within budget and seek approval for replacement/increase
  • Engage in ongoing cost reduction analysis within your department

Safety & Leadership:

  • Change management leader – execute change while supporting employees through communication, listening and actioning
  • Strong leadership skills (coaching, mentoring, influencer)
  • Actively support the safety management system by following SMS processes and encouraging a safety reporting culture in your department
  • Promote occupational health and safety within your department, and participate in the development and monitoring of safety training
  • Proactively communicate hazards and SMS initiatives with your department
  • Embark on employment equity initiatives
  • Engaging with all employees to promote employment equity and encouraging employees to undertake the self-declaration survey updating as necessary
  • All levels of the organization share responsibility for human rights within the organization
  • Overseeing and promoting continuous improvement on human rights and employment equity initiatives

Managers, Supervisors and Leads – have been delegated the authority and are responsible to the Department Head to actively identify hazards and deficiencies and report through the SMS (Safety Management System) Program reporting system.  Communicate with all personnel within their respective department and other departments as required to maintain effective day to day activities.  Ensure regulatory and company standards are maintained.  Assist in the development and maintenance of company processes and procedures. (Quality Assurance activities)

Qualifications & Skills:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) an asset
  • Candidates must be graduates of an accredited aviation program
  • Must provide proof of valid Transport Canada issued AME–E license
  • Endorsements on ATR, Boeing, Airbus considered an asset
  • Basic Computer skills (word, excel, office)
  • Knowledge of an airline’s operations an asset
  • Ability to prioritize tasks
  • Must be able to work independently or in a team setting
  • Ability to work efficiently and accurately under pressure
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • Ability to lift 75lbs
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an Enhanced Security Clearance qualification
  • Travel is required
